Virtual Sales... part 1...

We are pretty close to the opening of the Winter sales, well at least in France. I won't be in Paris and there is no chance I could find something to buy in my small town. Well I'm connected with all the e-shops in the world... but you know, I'm old school and like to try clothes and shoes on in a store. But what if? I'll do some virtual shopping and let you know what I'll find.

Vegetal Patterns

Last day of the holidays... tomorrow is back to work! I took a walk on the sea wall this morning and loved those vegetal patterns made of sand and frozen water. And a trace of my wellies! (Got a lot of fun with Poladroid too!)

Dernier jour de vacances avant de réellement commencer cette nouvelle année. Je me suis baladée sur la digue ce matin entre ces motifs végétaux laissés là par le sable et l'eau gelée. Et la trace de ma botte en caoutchouc! (et je m'amuse avec Poladroid!)

Some Kind Of A Mystery

Sorry for the lack of posting but you know how Holidays Season is: gifts hunt, wrapping, trains to catch, family...

Je sais, je suis un peu silencieuse, mais vous savez ce qu'est la période de Noël: course aux cadeaux, paquets à faire, les trains à prendre, la famille...


Anyway I finally got a wifi connexion in my house by the sea and I got to share you with my first experiment as a jury of the Accessory Design Postgraduate collections of the students of the IFM (French Fashion Institute). The program connects international designers with industrial partners and renowned fashion houses who participate in the creation of the prototypes. For the sessions I attended past Tuesday, the students worked in collaboration with Louis Vuitton, Marithé & François Girbaud and Prada. Thrilling isn't it!

Ceci dit, j'ai enfin une connexion wifi dans ma maison au bord de la mer, et ça me change la vie! Avant de faire un break, j'avais envie de vous parler de ma première expérience comme membre d'un jury d'évaluation de collections de chaussures. Celles des étudiants de dernière année du programme de création Mode&Accessoire de l'IFM. Pour les sessions auxquelles j'ai assistées mardi dernier, les collections et prototypes ont été réalisés en collaboration avec Louis Vuitton, Marithé & Francois Girbaud et Prada. Un vrai plaisir!


Unfortunately I couldn't take pictures of the prototypes but I can assure you that I was amazed and impressed by the quality and creativity of all the projects. So it remains some kind of a mystery for you as creation itself can be. But I'm still thinking of two of them among the seven projects I had to judge. The students had to create a collection of shoes and ensure the development and follow-up of their prototype. From the story and inspirations to design, choice of materials and range of colors, thinking of the technical technical constraints and of course the business plan as they have to keep in mind the commercial potential of their collection.

Je n'ai malheureusement pas pu prendre de photos des prototypes, mais j'ai été impressionnée par la créativité et la qualité de tous les dossiers. Mystère donc, comme l'est la création. J'ai toujours en tête certaines des collections parmi les sept présentées. Pour l'adéquation et l'équilibre entre l'histoire et l'inspiration de départ et la conception de ces collections. Du design des modèles au choix des matériaux et des gammes de couleurs, la prise en compte des contraintes techniques et bien évidemment le business plan. Puisqu'il nous fallait aussi évaluer le potentiel commercial des collections.

Thanks this experiment and an exciting project with the French brand André, I got a better view of all the things you have to think about when creating a shoe collection. Once again I'll keep the mystery until January but I can already tell you that the beginning of 2010 is going to be fun!

Grâce à cette expérience, plus un projet très excitant avec André, j'ai maintenant une vision assez précise de tout ce qui entre en jeu dans la création d'une collection de souliers. Là encore, je vais garder le mystère jusqu'en janvier, mais je peux déjà vous dire que ce début d'année 2010 s'annonce très fun!

I was pretty tired this past week-end but I guess it's quite all the same for a lot of people at the end of the year... and it's raining... so I really got to cheer up this morning!

I kinda love when it snows in Paris so I can wear my shapka bought years ago in a small shop in Budapest and feel like I'm Ninotchka.

J'aime bien quand il neige sur Paris. Je peux alors porter ma chapka, achetée il y a des années dans une petite boutique de Budapest, et me prendre pour Ninotchka.


And I found André a pair of shoes that keeps my feet warm. So now you've seen the three pairs I bought there, the Wellies booties and the Oxford, and I'm pretty pleased about them! Have a wonderful week-end and Xmas shopping!

Maybe you remembered the girl waiting outside the Halle Freyssinet because she didn't have invitation to get in. Well I was just like her before I met Nathalie Elharrar, designer of the label LaRare, who invited me to the Talbot Runhof show. I must admit that I was so mesmerized by this two models from LaRare's S/S 2010 collection that I didn't remember a lot of the clothes collection... I'll come back on LaRare Summer collection but if you want to have a first look on it, got to the Palace of Imelda, my dearest Despotic Queen Of Shoes.

Vous vous souvenez peut-être de la jeune fille qui attendait à l'extérieur de la Halle Freyssinet. Et bien, j'étais comme elle avant de rencontrer Nathalie Elharrar, créatrice du label LaRare, qui m'invita au défilé Talbot Runhof. Je dois avouer que je n'ai pas un souvenir très précis de cette collection, car j'étais surtout fascinée par ces deux modèles de la collection LaRare P/E 2010... Je vous reparlerai de cette collection, mais vous pouvez déjà avoir un premier perçu en vous rendant chez Imelda, ma très chère Despotic Queen Of Shoes.

Back To...

Paris. Well actually I'm back to my mother's apartment in the west suburb which means trains to go to Paris, but drivers have been on strike for about a week... plus a deadly cold weather. Hopefully, I got a lot of interesting things to do!

Enfin plus précisément en banlieue ouest, ce qui signifie grève sur la ligne du RER A depuis presque une semaine, plus le froid glacial qui nous est tombé dessus! Heureusement que j'ai plein de choses à faire plus intéressantes les unes que les autres!

Xmas is coming fast and sweet presents too... But unfortunately this lovely chocolate shoe inspired by a Gianvito Rossi's model that I already shot here are not on sale... But when I saw it displayed in the windows of the Belgium "Willy Wonka" Pierre Marcolini's Parisian boutiques, I just couldn't resist to shoot it again. That's the power of a shoe, it drives you to enter the shop and actually you shouldn't hesitate as his chocolates are just so good!!!!!!!

Noël approche, les douceurs chocolatées aussi... Désolée de vous décevoir, mais ce superbe soulier en chocolat inspiré d'un modèle de Gianvito Rossi que j'avais déjà photographié ici, n'est pas à vendre... Réalisé avec brio par le "Willy Wonka" belge, Pierre Marcolini, il est exposé dans les vitrines parisiennes du chocolatier, et lorsque que je l'ai vu, je n'ai pas résisté au plaisir de le photographier de nouveau. Et quoi de mieux qu'un soulier pour nous attirer et nous faire entrer dans la boutique. Et très franchement vous auriez tort d'hésiter, car tous ses chocolats sont à tomber!!!!

Walter Steiger Made His Dream Come True

It's not a secret since I've shared with you a little of my tuition in handmade shoemaking that I love the workshop atmosphere and the nobility of this craft. Past September, Walter Steiger opened "Maison Steiger Bottier" in Paris and I got the opportunity to visit both the workshop and the boutique thanks to my dearest teacher, Michel Boudoux. He also introduced me to Walter Steiger's son who explained to me that his father was actually dreaming of a place where he could settle a boutique/workshop.

Vous n'êtes pas sans savoir, depuis que je vous ai un peu raconté mes cours avec un bottier, que j'adore l'atmosphère des ateliers et admire la noblesse de ce métier. En septembre dernier, Walter Steiger a ouvert rue Matignon la "Maison Steiger Bottier", et j'ai eu la chance, grâce à mon cher maître, Michel Boudoux, de visiter l'atelier et la boutique. Et tout le loisir de prendre des photos. J'ai aussi fait la connaissance du fils de Walter Steiger qui m'a expliqué que cette maison était le rêve de son père, réunir dans un même espace atelier et boutique.

Of course Walter Steiger's name wasn't unknown to me, but what I ignored that he was a son of a Swiss cobbler and that he learnt the craft of handmade shoes in Zurich at Molnard Bottier. His talent is associated to many key designers of the "Swinging Sixties", like Mary Quant, but what surprised me, as I'm a huge fan of this movie, is that he designed shoes for Blow Up (Antonioni, 1966) while working in the Bally Studio. In 1967, he showed the first collection under his own name in Paris and opened the first Steiger boutique in 1974. In the 80's, he collaborated and designed the shoes for Claude Montana, Karl Lagerfeld, Kenzo, or Azzedine Alaïa's fashion shows and in the US with Bill Glass, Calvin Klein, or Oscar de la Renta. I read somewhere that his shoe designs in the 80's summed up the decade - shoes were high, sexy and flashy with lots of design details, all beautifully handmade in Italy. International success, boutiques all over the world, we could imagine that aged 73, Walter Steiger would think of retirement. But no, he actually challenged the "crisis" with handmade collection for men and women. How powerful dream can be! So let's visit the place.

Evidemment, le nom de Walter Steiger ne m'était pas inconnu, mais j'ignorais en fait qu'il était Suisse, fils de cordonnier, ayant fait son apprentissage à Zurich chez Molnard Bottier. Moi qui suis une fan inconditionnelle du film Blow Up (Antonioni, 1966), j'ai aussi appris en faisant quelques recherches, qu'il avait créé les chaussures pour ce film alors qu'il travaillait au Studio Bally, et que son talent avait contribué au succès des créateurs des "Swinging Sixties", telle que Mary Quant. C'est en 1967 qu'il présenta sa première collection en nom propre à Paris, et la première boutique s'ouvrit en 1974. Dans les années 80, il a collaboré et créé les chaussures des défilés de Claude Montana, Karl Lagerfeld, Kenzo et Azzedine Alaïa, et aux Etats-Unis ceux de Bill Glass, Calvin Klein et Oscar de la Renta. J'ai lu quelque part que ces créations résumaient l'esprit de cette décennie - hauts talons, sexy and flashy, aux ornements faits main en Italie. On pourrait croire avec son succès international, et ses boutiques de part le monde, que Walter Steiger, du haut de ses 73 ans, serait prêt à se retirer. Et bien non, en ces temps de "crise", il lance une sorte de défi. Proposer pour hommes et femmes une collection de souliers sur mesure. Les rêves sont puissants! Alors une petite visite.

Workshop / Atelier

Well you can see the tools and the hands of Alexis Guyot who is in charge of the workshop. Alexis is a Compagnon du Devoir (in English it's close to: member of the French Guild of Cordwainers) and has already worked with famous Maison like Massaro before being hired by Walter Steiger.

Les outils et les mains au travail d'Alexis Guyot, responsable de l'atelier. Compagnon du devoir, il a travaillé chez différents bottiers, comme Massaro ou Anthony Delos, avant d'être engagé chez Walter Steiger.

With from time to time a little help from Michel Boudoux. I know that his gift to make perfect lasts are precious.

Avec de temps en temps, un petit coup de main de Michel Boudoux. Sachant qu'un de ses talents est de réaliser des formes parfaites, son expérience est précieuse.

All the models shown in the boutique can be handmade with your own measures. Of course this has a price but once in a lifetime... I'd like to!

Tous les modèles exposés en boutique peuvent être réalisés sur mesure. Bien sûr cela a un prix mais une fois dans ma vie... j'aimerais bien!

You can't imagine how happy I am with these Wellies booties as the weather on the sea is so rainy! Bought them at André with the Oxford and another pair I left in Paris so no picture yet but pretty soon...

Vous n'imaginez pas à quel point je suis contente de ces petites bottines en caoutchouc, vu le temps humide que j'ai au bord de la mer. Je les ai achetées chez André, en même temps que les Oxford, et une autre paire qui est restée à Paris. Donc pas de photo pour l'instant mais je retourne bientôt dans la capitale...

Oxford Shoes By André

Not feeling very well today. I got a bad cold so this post is going to be short. When I bought these Oxford shoes by André two weeks ago, I didn't remember that I shot them during the past Fashion Week. Comfy and easy to wear with pants or skirt, the kind of shoes that fit everyday.


Pas la grande forme aujourd'hui, la faute à un méchant rhume qui m'abrutit quelque peu... Quand j'ai acheté cette paire d'Oxford chez André, je ne me souvenais absolument pas l'avoir photographiée pendant la Fashion Week. J'ai retrouvé cette photo en parcourant mes dossiers, elles sont confortables, faciles à porter avec jupe ou pantalon, bref le genre de paire idéale pour tous les jours.

You've noticed that I don't talk a lot about Jimmy Choo but I will do an exception for this online photo competition aim to support the launch of project PEP by Jimmy Choo and the Elton John AIDS Foundation. The limited edition Project PEP Collection is a charity one that donates 25% of sales to the Simelela Rape Centre in South Africa. The money goes towards providing the HIV-preventative treatment PEP (which must be taken within 72 hours of exposure to HIV) and counselling to victims of rape in South Africa, which has the highest count of rape in the world.

Je parle rarement de Jimmy Choo, mais aujourd'hui je fais une petite exception, pour vous informer de ce concours de photos online lancé par Jimmy Choo et la Elton John AIDS Fondation. Week-End at Last...

Ok the past week was great actually. Interesting meetings and exciting projects, night out with my girlfriends, three new pairs of shoes at André and one of them is finally a pair of wellies booties, black with small white polka dots to cheer rainy days as today! Have a wonderful week-end guys!

En fait, j'ai passé une super semaine. Des rendez-vous intéressants, des projets en cours excitants, une soirée cool entre filles, et l'achat de trois nouvelles paires de chaussures chez André, dont enfin, une paire de bottines en caoutchouc noire à petits pois blancs pour égayer les jours de pluie comme aujourd'hui! Je vous souhaite un excellent week-end!

What About White?

This is the kind of moment I like when I walk in the street, spotting a girl wearing a pair of shoes I never think I could wear. Like this white boots. I guess I don't have any white shoes even for Summer so for Fall or Winter... But here it works actually!


Ça faisait un petit moment que mon oeil n'avait pas été attiré par une paire de chaussures. Surtout qu'en il s'agit d'une paire que je n'aurais jamais imaginé pouvoir porter. Comme ces bottines blanches. Je crois bien que je n'ai aucune paire de chaussures blanches, même pour l'été, alors que dire de l'automne presque hiver... Mais là, je trouve que ça fonctionne bien!

Qu'est ce qui fait courir les filles?

Past Friday I attended the final of the high heel running contest organized by Sarenza. I couldn't missed it. Great atmosphere, a lot's of fun and excitement, heels and pink everywhere! Just wanted to share some photos with you.

Vendredi dernier, j'étais invitée à la finale du championnat national de course en escarpins organisé par Sarenza au Palais Brongiart. Je ne pouvais quand même pas manquer ça! Il y régnait une très bonne ambiance, toutes les filles présentes ont joué le jeu avec beaucoup de fair play et un plaisir évident d'être là. Des filles, des talons et du rose un peu partout! Que j'avais envie de partager en ce dimanche soir.






The shoe used for the relay race was the Expistols model from Annabel Winship's A/H 09 collection. And it was pretty cool to meet her there.

L'escarpin utilisé pour la course de relais était le modèle Expistols de la collection A/H 09 d'Annabel Winship. Et ça m'a fait très plaisir de la retrouver à cette soirée.

Fly Me to the Moon

The first time I met Carole Berger, the designer of the rather new label Little Moon, it was about a year ago at the shoe trade Mess Around. And in fact it was the most interesting and original collection among all the other exhibitors. Of course, I planned to publish an article about it but actually there is no better oportunity than the opening of her first Parisian store to do it!

J'ai rencontré Carole Berger, créatrice de la toute jeune marque Little Moon, il y a un an environ, au salon Mess Around. A vrai dire sa collection était la seule vraiment originale et intéressante au milieu de tout ces exposants. J'avais en tête un billet depuis un moment mais quoi de mieux que l'ouverture de sa première boutique parisienne pour enfin vous en parler!


This Chinese/French-born designer, former graduate of Studio Berçot, built her label on the various experiments she had in the fashion industry, and her knowledge of the shoe business as being Rodolphe Menudier's assistant. Besides the two years she spent in China working for different local companies gave her the opportunity to find a real good footwear factory. I think it's the first time I find a collection really well made in China.

De père français et de mère chinoise, cette diplomée du Studio Berçot s'est forgée à travers ses différents jobs dans l'industrie de la mode une belle expérience, et notamment dans la chaussure en tant qu'assistante de Rodolphe Ménudier, avant de lancer sa propre marque. Et les deux ans qu'elle a passé en Chine à travailler pour différentes entreprises locales, lui ont aussi permis de trouver le bon fabricant. Et oui, une fois n'est pas coutume, je reconnais qu'une collection fabriquée en Chine est de très bonne facture.




Little Moon is Carole Chinese first name and naturally inspired her the main concept of her brand based on this planet's symbolism: feminine, mysterious, luminous. And I think that it's pretty obvious with this grey boot made with a soft glitzy leather. But the great idea is in the heel which is phosphorecent and glows in the night! So I had to try them on!

Little Moon est le prénom chinois de Carole et tout naturellement, elle a placé le concept de sa marque sous le symbolisme de la lune: féminine, mystérieuse, lumineuse. Et de tous les modèles, je trouve que cette bottine grise, au cuir irisé, en est la parfaite illustration. Mais ce que j'aime en particulier c'est le talon phosphorescent qui brille dans la nuit! Il fallait donc que je les essaye!



The other detail that I like in this F/W collection named Eclipse is the handmade Chinese knots which are lucky charms meant to protect you during your journey.

L'autre détail qui me plaît dans cette collection A/W qui répond au joli nom d'Eclipse, sont les noeuds chinois porte-bonheurs (les pin an qui signifie "bon voyage"), destinés à vous protéger durant vos déplacements ou voyages.



So with three Chinese knots and a luminous red, should I need anything else?

Alors avec trois noeuds chinois et un rouge flamboyant, ai-je besoin d'autre chose?
